Sharing a Journey: Building the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art Collection

Oklahoma State University began collecting art in the 1930s, thanks to Art Department head and nationally recognized printmaker Doel Reed. By the end of the 20th century, our collection included a broad representation of modern art, with a particular emphasis on works on paper. In the past few years, even more breadth has been introduced, and today our collection spans the history of art from the ancient world to contemporary work, and its geographical range spans the globe. In this exhibition and accompanying catalogue, we shared OSU’s collection with you for the first time.

The opening of OSU’s first dedicated museum facility at the Postal Plaza Gallery was a significant moment—but we recognize that it is only a moment in our ongoing history. We are grateful to our many donors and community supporters, and most of all to OSU President Burns Hargis for transforming the OSU Museum of Art from a dream into reality. As the collection continues to grow and change, the title of our show, Sharing a Journey, invites you to learn more about how we got here, and to join us for the future.
